Background of the study:
Trade policy reforms, including export promotion strategies, are pivotal for stimulating domestic production by increasing market access and improving competitiveness. In Kano State, reforms implemented between 2000 and 2020 have sought to reduce trade barriers and incentivize local production through streamlined customs procedures, tax incentives, and export credit facilities (Ibrahim, 2023). These initiatives aim to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on imports by encouraging local manufacturers to expand production and tap into international markets. Empirical evidence indicates that effective export promotion strategies can lead to increased production volumes and higher quality outputs (Oluwaseun, 2023). However, challenges such as infrastructural deficiencies, limited access to technology, and bureaucratic delays continue to impede progress (Chinwe, 2024). This study evaluates how trade policy reforms have influenced domestic production in Kano State, examining both the benefits and the obstacles that need to be addressed to maximize export potential.
Statement of the problem:
Despite trade policy reforms, domestic production in Kano State has not achieved expected growth due to infrastructural limitations, bureaucratic hurdles, and insufficient technological support (Ibrahim, 2023; Chinwe, 2024). These challenges restrict export promotion strategies from fully stimulating local production. This study aims to identify these barriers and propose strategies to boost domestic output.

Significance of the study:
This study is significant as it examines the effectiveness of trade policy reforms in boosting domestic production in Kano State. The findings will provide actionable insights for policymakers to optimize export promotion strategies, thereby strengthening the domestic manufacturing base and economic growth (Ibrahim, 2025).
Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to evaluating export promotion strategies and their impact on domestic production in Kano State, focusing on policy and infrastructural factors.
